So next week I start at college again. This time I am a masters student, doing a Master of Science (MSc) in Digital Marketing. This is a full time course; I will be in college three days a week (Wednesday-Friday). We were given the timetable last week and here is what I will be learning:
Marketing Communications In A Digital Era – this is going to cover social media strategy and platforms, digital display advertising (banner ads and pay-per-click), content marketing solutions (email marketing and blogs), online public relations and brand management; and last but not least, social, ethical and legal issues in digital marketing communications.
Data Analytics & Consumer Insights – this is going to cover the concept and current state of digital marketing analytics, types of data, digital marketing metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), marketing analytics techniques and tools (web, mobile, social media), data visualisation, data analysis and interpretation, turning analytics into action (converting the data into insights), and law (again).
Design, User Experience & Content Writing – this is going to cover principles of design (designing websites), website interface design (delivering the online customer experience, content planning, best practice, usability and accessibility), professional practice (basically more legalese, registering domains, copyright and intellectual property), promotion channels (search engine optimisation, online reputation management), and client and creative management (sourcing and managing creative services, project management and image and content rights)
Digital Marketing Landscape & Strategy – this is going to cover the evolution of marketing in the digital era, the strategic role of digital marketing in business, and the ethical and legal landscape for digital marketing (yet again).
Digital Marketing Technologies – this is going to cover infrastructure for digital marketing (desktop systems, broadband technologies and mobile devices and technologies), digital content elements (sound, text, video), website design and production (CSS, HTML, WordPress), responsive design and web analytics, social media technologies and mobile apps
Strategic Marketing Management – this is going to cover strategic brand management, organisational culture, international marketing, pricing strategies, promotional and product decisions.
This sounds like a lot of material, but some of the modules are only until Christmas. Plus there is a final dissertation/research project as well. This is going to be challenging but rewarding.
